day 14 – #30daysofgratitude

saxesSimon and I will meet with the instrument rental folks at school tonight to discuss upgrading his saxophone for high school….HIGH SCHOOL! This is one of my little moments of legacy – I played clarinet and then saxophone from 5th grade into college. My best friends, a couple of boyfriends (so what if I was a sucker for a percussionist!), and some of my best memories came from that little music room at the junior high building. People like to make jokes about band, but takes a lot of discipline to practice something for 8+ years, to learn steps, to wear wool in the summertime. It’s neat to see him maturing as a player and getting to experience the community of band geeks.
*This is a photo of the saxophonist who were chosen from across Indiana to represent middle school band programs at the opening ceremony of the Drum Corps International Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium this August. Simon is the fourth middle schooler in from the right.
