In honor of our middle’s 11th birthday, we took a fun daytrip to Louisville, Kentucky. My husband took Jonah, his friend and Simon to thrill-seek at Mega Quest – the world’s only fully underground high adventure ropes course. This place was pretty amazing! My husband snapped this photo of him all geared up and coming up the ropes bridge and he looks like he’s enjoying the climb. I’m telling you, they were wiped out after the three hours on the course.
But the fun didn’t end with ropes course exhaustion.
Jonah and I picked out an out-of-the-way burger joint to check out for dinner from a list of places Guy Fieri visited on his Food Network show, “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” (one of our fave shows), Bluegrass Burgers. We snarfed down grassfed beef and bison burgers with locally-grown veggies and fries. It was a perfect fit for our whole food lifestyle and we didn’t have to worry about how Simon would feel after dinner – score! Jonah gave it 5 stars.
And we finished off the trip with a visit to the Louisville Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular – a 1/4 mile walk through a trail trimmed with over 5,000 lighted, carved pumpkins. And if that doesn’t sound amazing enough, I’m telling you it was seriously unreal in person! Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere – along the trail as far back in woods as you could see, and even up in the trees dozens of feet above the trail. Eyes were wide with wonder – and I’m not just talking about the kids!
What a fun day and a great way to celebrate a kid who lives life full-on! He’s the most passionate, dramatic, hilarious, devoted kid – and our family would be so dull without him. We call him our “party in a person” because this kid knows how to have a great time! We are so looking forward to seeing what God has in store for this kid this year!
